Why is it important?
Interactive writing teaches children how to successfully and correctly formulate their own writing with the knowledgeable, encouraging assistance of their teacher. Rather than journey into the scary, unknown world of writing on their own, children can work side by side with their teacher learning how to properly plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish their writing. Through the technique entitled, "sharing the pen", the teacher can substitute new vocabulary words, edit grammatical errors, implement print concepts, and evoke deeper creative thinking.
